This central Peruvian region is reputed to have one of the oldest known settlements in the Americas. The 5000 year old site of Kotosh (Temple of the Crossed Arms) is just 4 km’s from the city of Huánuco, and baffled scientists for years. There are limited tourist attractions in the Huánuco region; however some visitors choose to visit the picturesque town of Tingo Maria, and take advantage of hiking opportunities in the Tingo Maria National Park.
