Day 1 – Arrive Lima

Today your international flight will arrive into Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima (most flights arrive in the evening). You will spend the night in the Costa del Sol Ramada Jarvis Hotel, conveniently located near to the main airport terminal building. Using this hotel will avoid two lengthy transfers into central Lima, and allow you the maximum time for a good night’s sleep after your international flight.

Day 2 – Fly to Cusco

In the morning you will fly to the ancient Andean city of Cusco high in the central Andes. Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the heartland of the Inca Empire, but today is a vibrant and bustling modern city with lots to see and do.

Located at 10,800 feet (3,200 meters) above sea level, it is important to take time to adjust to the altitude in Cusco, especially as you will start the Inca Trail Trek in a few days. Therefore this afternoon we provide you with free time to relax, and soak up the city.

Day 3 – Guided Tour of the Sacred Valley

Today you will take a full day tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you will visit the market town of Pisac and the small village of Ollantaytambo. In Pisac you will visit the beautiful mountain top ruins which include a small Inca village and a well preserved royal temple, before heading along the valley and lunching in Urubamba. In the afternoon you will climb the hillside fortress at Ollantaytambo, where the Incas fought one of their last battles against the Spanish Conquistadores. On your return to Cusco there is the opportunity to visit the small yet stunning church of Chinchero.

Day 4 – Guided tour of Cusco

In the morning you will fly to Cusco in the heartland of the Inca Empire. You will have the morning to relax and settle in before we collect you for an afternoon tour of Cusco city and surroundings . The Cusco city tour includes attractions not only within the city, but those of Saqsayhuman, Q’enco and Tambomachay located on the outskirts of Cusco. Within the city the tour gives you the opportunity to visit Cusco’s Cathedral and Korikancha – The Inca Temple of the Sun.

Day 5 – Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is situated in the region know as the Vilcabamba. This area extends between the Apurimac and Urubamba rivers where the 45km Inca trail lies within. Visitors from all around the world come to Peru, not only to see Machu Picchu, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, but also to hike the Inca trail.

Trek difficulty: Moderate

6.30am transfer from your hotel to kilometer 82 where you will begin the trail. The trail begins by first crossing the Vilcanota river, then to the ruins of the Inca hill fort of Huillca Raccay. After 7 hours (13km) of hiking, you will spend the night in Huayllabamba.

Day 6 – Inka Trail Huallabamba – Pacamayo

After an early breakfast you will climb up from Huallabamba until the meadow of Llulluchapampa. A quick tea break and your are heading up again to Abra de Huarmihuañusca (meaning ‘Dead Woman’s Pass‘), the highest point of the trail at 4200m. After celebration of having completed this section, the decent from the pass is steep but not difficult! On reaching the valley floor you will spend the second night camping in Pacamayo.

Day 7, Inka Trail Pacamayo – Wiñay Wayna (B, L, D)

You will start the morning with a short climb to the ruins of Runkuracay. From the ruins the view of Pacamayo valley is well worth it once the hard part is over. From here you will continue the trek to the second pass of Abra de Runkuracay (4000m). Now walking along a cobbled pa0th the trail begins a deep decent until we reach Sayacmarca (meaning Inaccessible Town). Before reaching the 3rd pass you will walk through an astonishing cloud forest full of orchids, hanging mosses, tree ferns and flowers, not to mention the Inca tunnel. The 3rd pass is at 3700m, just before you arrive at the most spectacular ruin so far; Phuyupatamarca (meaning Town in the Clouds). After this long day you camp the night in Wiñay Wayna where you have access to a shower and bar!

Day 8, Inka Trail Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu, Return to Cusco (B)

Today you will start hiking while it is still dark so don’t forget your flashlight. The trail today contours a mountainside and into the cloud forest stopping quickly for sunrise at our final pass, the Intipunku (meaning ‘Sun Gate’).

Once you have reached Machu Picchu, you will enjoy a 2 hour guided tour, and then you have some free time to explore the site on your own. Finally you will make your way to the town of Aguas Calientes below for lunch before taking the train to Cusco via Ollantaytambo or Poroy from where you will be transferred by bus to Cusco.

Day 9, Day of Relaxation in Cusco (B)

Today we simply include a free day for you to relax after hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Your Cusco tourist ticket is still valid, so this is the perfect opportunity for you to take full advantage of the other Cusco attractions that are included within the ticket, but not previously visited.

Should you wish we can include another activity or tour for you today. Popular options include white water rafting along the Urubamba Valley, Mountain biking in the Andes or a trip to Moras, Moray and the Salt Mines.

Day 10 – Depart

Today you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we collect you from your hotel and transfer you back to Cusco Airport for your onward flights.
