Overview

The Tinkuy Restaurant is a high quality buffet restaurant situated right at the entrance of Machu Picchu. Located in same building as the luxury Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, the restaurant is the only option for a sit down meal whilst visiting Machu Picchu. All other restaurants are located in Aguas Calientes 40 minutes away on the valley floor. The restaurant comfortably seats 200 people at small individual tables or long tables (for groups). There are 2 large self-serve counters that include a selection of appetizers, 4 main courses, and several dessert options. Bread, salads and pasta side dishes are also on offer. Coffee, herbal teas and soft drinks are also available at a smaller drinks stand to the rear. The entrance price is US$ 40 per adult with discounts for children.

Our Thoughts

We like the Tinkuy Restaurant. It is a great spot to rest, relax and recharge your batteries whilst visiting Machu Picchu. The food is well-cooked, plentiful and offers something to suit most tastes. The US$ 40 per person price tag might seem a little high, but it is worth remembering that the restaurant is in a very isolated spot on the edge of the Amazon Jungle. The Tinkuy Restaurant is not a high end restaurant like the hotel it is attached to, so don’t expect 5 stars, but do expect high quality, well-prepared tasty food and a great place to rest whilst visiting Machu Picchu.
