Overview of Hotel
Location
The Hatuchay Tower Hotel is located on Avenida Hermanos Ayar, the only road in Aguas Calientes (or Machu Picchu Pueblo) which is also the shuttle bus road that leads to Machu Picchu. The hotel is a 3-4 minutes’ walk from the main shuttle bus stop and 8-10 minutes’ walk from the train station. The hotel has its own bus stop which is used for drop-offs when returning from Machu Picchu. The hotel overlooks the Vilcabamba River which can be quite noisy from December through until May.
Our Thoughts!
The hotel is a 4 story building with a rather tired looking façade. The hotel has 42 rooms in total: 26 are Standard Twin Rooms, 5 Superior Twin Rooms, 6 Standard Matrimonial Rooms (with queen beds), 4 Junior Suites and 1 Luxury Suite. Incredibly none of the rooms (even suites) have king beds. Included in a night’s stay is breakfast and dinner.
This hotel is not one of our favorites. A few years back the Hatuchay Tower hotel was by far the best option for a good quality superior class hotel. However, as the years have passed and a lack of investment in the infrastructure and the accommodations has allowed other newer hotel developments to easily overtake it. In comparison to the new Casa Andina Select, the El Mapi or the Casa del Sol, it simply looks shabby. Making matters worse the Hatuchay Tower Hotel still believes that it can charge premium prices for a night’s stay. It is worth noting that rooms on either side of the hotel overlook the ramshackle town of Aguas Calientes, whilst only the forward facing rooms have views of the Vilcabamba River. Better deals can be found elsewhere.
