Inca Trail Porters
  • LilliamLilliam November 2010
My husband and I are hiking the Inca Trail towards the end of November. What is the cost of hiring a porter, and is it really worth it? We're in relatively good shape or better.

I have hiked the Inca Trail many times, and each time I have carried my own equipment, and each time I have regretted it. The high altitudes, and the constant up and down hill walking that you will experience will take its toll on you.

A porter will cost you about $40 for 4 days for about 20Kg's of equipment, which is probably good enough for 2 poeple if you carry 5 or 6 KG's in your own bag.

Alternatively, you can hire a porter for the second day only, as you ascend Dead Womans Pass, the toughest section of the trail. A porter for this day costs around $15.

The Inca Trail is a trek to enjoy, allow the porters to carry your equipment. !!!!
