I have a chance to travel to Machu Picchu in early March or wait until May. We are not hiking the Inca Trail. I would spend the night in aguas calientes and wake up early to take the first bus up to the gate.
So the questions are: March Rains vs. May Crowds? Does the rain at MP ever let up during a March day, say in the early a.m.?
I welcome any thoughts from anyone who has visited Machu Picchu during March. Thanks.
March is still part of the rainy season, but it doesn't mean that it rains everyday. There is more chance of rain falling in March than in May. When the rain does come it is usually in bursts and isn't all day. Saying that, last year the rain was unprecedented and no one travelled in March or May!
Be prepared with rain coats etc, and you should be fine!
